Training Updates
Today marks Day 1 of laying the foundation for London. I am six months away from race day.
Two weeks ago I ran and finished the Chicago Marathon. For this race, I was a charity runner for the American Cancer Society. The charity team raised over $1,700,000 in the fight against cancer! The experience was incredible and it got me to thinking about how else I can serve my community while also pursuing my goal of becoming a Six Star Finisher.
To date I have completed two World Major Marathons (1- Boston Marathon in 2021, 2-Chicago Marathon in 2023); the London Marathon will be my third. I also hope to either run the New York City Marathon or Berlin Marathon in the Fall season.
Fundraising is a challenge in addition to training to run 26.2 miles. I have been fortunate to have people support my fundraising efforts by participating in my small business raffles, food sales, and simply clicking my fundraising page link to donate. I have also learned that word of mouth goes a long way, so please do share this page and my efforts with your family and friends.
Chelsea...why?
Running is freeing. In Navajo culture it represents the journey to new beginnings as the Dine are called to run each morning before dawn. For a Navajo woman, running is a rite of passage to strengthen your mind and body while calling on guidance from our ancestors. The act of running is a metaphor for the long journey of life and how we choose to handle the obstacles we encounter. If you are a runner yourself, you understand the importance of mind over matter; believing in yourself to push further and further. Even the Bible reminds us that faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains.
How can I help or support you?
For the London Marathon on April 21, 2024, I am raising money for the organization Tuesday's Children (www.tuesdayschildren.org).
Tuesday's Children supports the nation's military Families of the Fallen. Beginning shortly after 9/11, this organization has assisted over 45,000 individuals and families that have lost a service member (child, parent, spouse, or sibling) and have been affected by terrorism and mass violence.
As an Army brat, former military wife, and sister/cousin/niece to military service members I want to support this incredible effort and answer the call in partnering with this organization to address the needs of families at all stages of recovery from trauma and loss.
Any donation amount is much appreciated.
Thank you and A'hehee!
