Here we are...76 days out from THE DAY.
I am part of a London Marathon training group on Facebook. It's fun to see the posts of others - strangers - whom are all on the same journey as me. Reading countless stories about rising above physical and emotional struggles, past trauma, and current conditions are inspiring. One guy recently wrote about the loss of his wife of 30+ years and how he is pursuing this journey in her memory because she loved to run and he did not. Can you imagine?
Sure this man sprinkles in sweet and funny stories about how he would tell his wife that she was crazy for 'running for fun' and here he is training during a very cold winter in the midwest. Ha! We are an insane bunch for sure.
Every day I hear from friends and family on my training; either with check-ins or funny notes/videos. A good friend of mine, whom I met on social media, sent me a video the other day of a man taking a dance break while running the New York City Marathon. It was a lighthearted yet uplifting video that reminded me of how fun a marathon truly is.
Sounds crazy I know, but it is so much fun! The training for 26.2 miles is nothing to take lightly, but it's all preparation for your 'victory lap' of the actual race.
When I ran Chicago last Fall I had a blast! I did not experience "the wall" and the crowds were incredible! Along the course you hear music, see confetti, feel water sprinkling (thank you to those that do that), hear strangers screaming your name and words of encouragement, get all the free treats, and in some cases people hand out vodka shots or beer! HA!
I channeled these good feelings and memories in this week's training and it made me smile. Especially during my long run when I got S O A K I N G wet and cold!!! Check it out here on this week's training video.
As I continue on with my training, I encourage you to find your something and pursue it. Make all the memories and have a blast along the way!
xx, Chels
p.s. London, please don't rain during the race (hahaha, I know, I know).
