About Chels
I am a full-time health care worker by day and a bagmaker by night. I like to think of sewing as my superpower and one of my favorite things is to just sit and create. I am a HUGE theatre nerd (after all, one of my Bachelors degrees is in Music Performance) and I enjoy running, reading, and traveling. My boys are my life and together we play, sing, dance, and explore our Colorado locality.
When I am not sewing, I can be found sitting at my desk working on homework.
Sewing Background
I grew up on/off the Navajo reservation watching my late nali asdzaan sewing on her vintage Singer machine. I will always remember the sound of the treadle gently knocking as she feverishly handcrafted beautiful quilts. When I was around ten years old, she taught me how to quilt a nine-block.
Shi nali asdzaan was not the only one in my life who sewed. Shimasani also sewed her clothing; mending and designing fabulous clothing for herself was inspiring. Shimasani has always been fashionable.
Shima also sewed. She has always been practical with her makes for as long as I can remember. Growing up she designed and crafted my brother and I's Halloween costumes (no patterns whatsoever!), curtains, and miniature clothing for her sister's Barbie dolls.
Years ago my mother gifted me a sewing machine and I took off with sewing quilts and blankets, which eventually evolved into the wonderful bags, wallets, and accessories that you see today.
We owe a great debt to our elders and I am honored by the gifts they passed onto me.
Ahe'hee and thank you for stopping by my page!
