Collection: My Six Star World Marathon Major Journey
The Six Star Medal is a huge accomplishment and special achievement marker for those who have run all six of the World Marathon Majors.
To date I have completed two of the six World Marathon Majors - Boston Marathon (2021) and Chicago Marathon (2023). In 2024 I will be running both the London Marathon (April) and Berlin Marathon (September). My ultimate goal is to then run the Tokyo Marathon and finish in NYC with the New York City Marathon in Fall 2025.
In the most recent news (according to Abbott World Marathon Majors) there are more than 11,000 runners that have earned the Six Star Medal. In my research I have not seen information on a Navajo (Dine) individual earning one (if I'm mistaken, please let me know) - I want to represent my tribe and be one.
In my culture (Navajo), running represents the journey to new beginnings as the Dine are called to run each morning before dawn. For a Navajo woman, running is a rite of passage to strengthen your mind and body while calling on guidance from our ancestors. The act of running is a metaphor for the long journey of life and how we choose to handle the obstacles we encounter. If you are a runner yourself, you understand the importance of mind over matter; believing in yourself to push further and further. Even the Bible reminds us that faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains.
When I ran the Chicago Marathon in October 2023 I fundraised for the American Cancer Society and it was such a rewarding experience. As I am currently preparing for the London Marathon in April 2024, I am fundraising for Tuesday's Children - an organization dedicated to providing a "lifetime of healing for families of fallen soldiers and others who have been forever changed by terrorism, military conflict or mass violence."
Being the wife of an Army veteran who has earned a Purple Heart, I am contended in knowing that such organizations exist to assist families through burdensome challenges.
If you are interested in donating (any amount helps) to Tuesday's Children, please visit my fundraising page: https://give.tuesdayschildren.org/fundraiser/4971108
On this page, you can also read my updates on my training progress. I also have a YouTube channel where I post videos on my running adventures in addition to my sewing activities - here.
